The president of Ukraine Victor Jushchenko signed the decree in which it's stated that the decree of the President of Ukraine from March, 13, 2008 № 214 "About Ground of L.Chernovetsky and Carrying out of Official Investigation" ceased to be in force. The corresponding decree is published on the official site of the head of the state.
We site here the text of the decree from April, 15, 2008:
"Having considered the results of the official investigation carried out according to the decree of the President of Ukraine from March, 13, 2008 № 214 "About Ground of L.Chernovetsky and Carrying out of Official Investigation" and also taking into account the decision of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine from March, 18, 2008 № 143-VІ "About Assignment of Early Elections of Deputies of Kiev City Council and Kiev City Heads" I decree:
1. To recognize the decree of the President of Ukraine from March, 13 in 2008 № 214 "About Ground of L.Chernovetsky and Carrying out of Official Investigation" invalid.
2. To take into account the results of the official investigation which was carried out in correspondence to the decree of the President of Ukraine from March, 13, 2008 № 214 "About Ground of L.Chernovetsky and Carrying out of Official Investigation".
- The decree about cancellation of the decree has reminded me an old joke: "The Great War was a mistake! Prince Ferdinand is alive!" - editor-in-chief of FORUM.msk Anatoly Baranov noticed. - It's difficult to expect such frivolity from the president of the country with population in almost 50 million people. Mayor of Kiev in fact has not been simply stood off - elections are already declared, their term is appointed, candidates are put forward, including the same Chernovetsky. And here you are - resignation is not considered, it was "for fun"... Just like in kindergarten.
"I think, the president decided to sign that decree because Chernovetsky had almost hundred percent chances to win elections and Jushchenko decided not to give such triumph to Kiev city head, - the head of the Ukrainian edition of FORUM.msk Vladimir Filin considers. - Configuration at those elections developed rather unsuccessfully for everybody, except for the resigned mayor and, probably, the president decided that farce's better than frank defeat. It was a difficult step, it was necessary to resolve to do it and only time would show to what extend it was correct".
