Native Land of Oswiecim and Warsaw Ghetto Asks the Byelorussians "National Question"
24.02.2010

Deputies of Sejm (the lower chamber of the parliament) of Poland accepted on Wednesday special resolution condemning the policy of authorities of Belarus in relation to the Polish national minority, the correspondent of news agency RIA Novosty transfers.

District court of Volozhin (Minsk region) made on Wednesday the decision that Polish House in Ivents (Minsk region) which became the reason for the conflict between two unions of the Belarus Poles would remain in the property of the official Union of Poles of Belarus (UPB).

Union of Poles was formed in Belarus in 1990 and united the Polish cultural-educational societies in Belarus. In 2005 Union split. Its part, loyal to the authorities, is recognized officially. Active members of not recognized part of the Union headed by Anzhelika Boris are in opposition to authorities in power. The Polish authorities support UPB headed by Boris.

The speaker of Sejm of Poland Bronislav Komorovsky, making comments on acceptance of resolution by members of the parliament, noticed that deputies "wish to remind the Belarus authorities that Minsk should take into consideration from time to time that there would be sharp definite answer and returning to a policy of sanctions in relation to Belarus".

From editorial board: It would seem what the Polish state has to do with dispute of two managing subjects in Belarus? Whether a question of oppression of the Poles has any relation to it at all?

The union of Poles of Belarus as a matter of fact is an association. Usually the country which is the historical native land for members of such association is interested in good relations of the association and the state-owner. Relation to the given national minority in host country directly depends on it. Actually it's a nonsense when the country which is the native land for representatives of some national minority starts kindling conflict between Diaspora and host country.

Poland frankly kindles the conflict between the Belarus state and citizens of Belarus of the Polish origin. What for? In general, it is clear - Warsaw received the order for sanctions of the European Union against Minsk.

Poland is an agent of the USA in the European Union and the EU recently harmonizes relations with Minsk. Probably, it does not suit Washington and the Belarus Poles here came to hand. The Poles are professional sufferers of Europe. Nobody is able to suffer as the Poles could.

However, in Poland itself the Poles are generally out of competition because Poland is the unique mononational country in Europe. Modern Poland - is one of the most mononational states of the world. According to population census of 2002, 96,74% of population of Poland are ethnic Poles. How did they manage to do it?

Earlier Jews, for example, lived in Poland. But in course of liquidation of Warsaw ghetto and final settlement of the Jewish problem in Aushvits Jews escaped from this country. The question with the Gipsy was settled in Poland simultaneously with the Jewish one. Usually the Germans are accused of it but nevertheless the Poles were basically the executors.

After war Poland managed to get big piece of primordially German territory in Silesia and East Prussia. However today Silesian Germans make only 0,4% of the population, while in the Polish part of East Prussia there are no Germans at all.

It is very interesting that the Byelorussians and Ukrainians make 0,1% of the population of Poland each, though half a century ago their number was essentially more significant.

Why the European Union doesn't want to take interest, how Poland managed to reach for half of a century such ethnic cleanliness which even the Third Reich failed to achieve?

For example, in "totalitarian" Belarus the following peoples live: the Russians (11%), the Poles (4%), the Ukrainians (2,5%) and the Jews (0,3%). There are also the Armenians (10,2 thousand), the Azerbaijanians (10,1 thousand), the Lithuanians (6,4 thousand) and the Georgians (3 thousand).

Whether it is not strange that there are 40 times more Poles in Belarus, than the Byelorussians in Poland?

Whether it is not strange that before World War II the quantity of the Jews in Poland and Belarus were approximately the same, while in a half of a century after the war there are 28 thousand Jews living in 10-million Belarus and in almost 40-million Poland - all in all 6-7 thousand, though there were 3.5 million before war?

When did Holocaust in Poland end - in 1945 or later? And whether only the Jews were involved in that process?

It is surprising that till now nobody set such question to Poland. Well, the Poles reminded themselves... It's as with Ukraine - if Jushchenko didn't award Bandera, nobody would recollect about slaughter of the Poles in Lvov. If Warsaw didn't begin scandal with association in Belarus - nobody would ask where peoples living in Poland still half of a century ago disappeared to?
