The European Union considers “referendum” which took place on Sunday in Donetsk and Lugansk areas of Ukraine illegitimate and doesn't recognize its results, the press secretary of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Maya Kosyanchich declared, BBC reports.
"So-called referendums in Donetsk and Lugansk areas are illegitimate and we don't recognize their results. Those who organized these referendums don't possess democratic legitimacy," — she declared.
Earlier representatives of US authorities, to France and Great Britain also declared about non-recognition of the results of referendum in Ukraine.
- Well, actually nobody expeсted that the USA and EU would recognize the results of referendum, - the editor-in-chief of FORUM.msk Anatoly Baranov noted. – Though it’s not possible to pretend that nothing happened on May, 11 in Donetsk and Lugansk areas of the former Ukraine. As the whole world had opportunity to observe how it occurred. Here you are what happened - people went and voted and there were crowds of them. It is possible to argue that not all voted, that calculation was not absolutely correct and so on, all this is accepted. Though there is a fact: the biggest part of the population of two rather big areas voted for the state sovereignty. That is it is necessary to admit obvious fact that people of Donbass fight for their independence. Under the UN charter people fighting for their independence already possess some rights, first of all they are a subject of international law. It is already necessary to reckon with them, it is necessary to conduct negotiations with them, it’s already impossible to do it without them. And so on. Not incidentally Kiev’s junta interfered with referendum in every possible way. It would seem that there’s nothing to worry about as it won’t be recognized. But armed forces undertook operations with participation of armored machinery on capture of polling stations. Eventually there were killed and wounded. Now the words Kiev’s junta can be written without commas, it confirmed its dictatorial and antinational character. It is already possible to judge it in Hague.
- Though there is a question whiсh is usual in such situations, - Anatoly Baranov continued. - Question “What’s further?" Further, I am afraid, war for independence is ahead of the southeast. As the United States were at war with Great Britain. On just the same legal grounds: London didn't recognize the sovereignty of colonies, and they wanted to be "states", that is sovereign states. By the way, it is absolutely optional that war for independence from junta will be go only in two areas - I think similar referenda will take place both in Odessa and in Kharkov areas which now are kept by Kiev exclusively with the help of terror and force of arms. In the long term freed Ukrainian provinces can get the desire to release Kiev. Besides there are doubts that junta will hold fair elections on May, 25, most likely elections will be held under control of paramilitary forces of the Ukrainian Nazis, and the West, having recognized them, will aсknowledge full separation from reality. Or full bias whiсh is already obvious.
