Progress Will Be the Grave-Digger of Capitalism

From Steinbeck's book "The Grapes of Wrath" about Great Depression in America.

"There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannon symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The fertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdy trunks, and the ripe fruit. And children dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate - died of malnutrition - because foot must rot, must be forces to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."

In other place, probably, in the same book I read how the American art workers discussed a problem - who will be killed by got angry miners at first. The wisest said - those who don't have callosities on their hands. All looked at their hands. Many left cities and went to the wood to wait for terrible time to end.

What moron did create disgraces which the American writer described. Fairly and ruthlessly, unlike our today's ones. The most usual capitalism did it. To be more precise the market which all leaders of today's "prospering" states are so proud with. Even more precisely, the market hand, which according to Chubays will settle all is guilty.

Less than half of a century passed and nobody drowns potato in the river and men who have no callosities sleep well at night. So what's happened? If capitalism became kind as Santa Claus? It's not so. It kills as before but now it kills strangers. In Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan. It feeds own people and it does it quite well. Rejection from capitalism in agriculture helped it, to be more correct rejection from invisible market hand.

The states pay now part of expenses of rural manufacturers and plan manufacture so that there were neither surpluses, nor deficiency. The share of expenses of the state in meal manufacture fluctuates from 30 to 90%. More than half of the budget of the union of the European countries goes on payment of grants to agricultural manufacturers.

There is a question - why misters didn't make the same in the thirties? If they needed grapes of wrath.

Our inhabitants and our politicians imagine process of distribution of grants as it occurs in Kushchevka. Kind barin - the governor gives out best worker and mother of the murderer 60 million which she spends at her own will. One has no right to know how much she will give to the fellows from Krasnodar. Others consider that Barroso takes big shovel and uses it to give grants to all farmers. The first and the second make mistake.

Process of charge of grants - the most complicated information process, it is impossible without computers and special programs. Without storage of enormous file of information about resource potential of each agricultural manufacturer. So, such technology of agricultural manufacture is inconceivable without creation of information infrastructure. Therefore and only therefore the American and the European farmers had to heat, burn and press things which hungry people needed.

When reorganization was on its last legs, the group of scientists offered the project of assessment of work of agricultural enterprises taking into account resource potential that as a matter of fact was the same that the western experts - landowners did. But this project sank in a rotten scientific bog. By then commission under guidance of Aganbegyan which considered projects of resuscitation of the state was created. That commission decided at its first session: extramarket projects of development shouldn't be considered. Scientists were not impressed by the fact that the West, including Japan, was full at the expense of not market project.

Let's imagine that miracle came true and our science together with power decided to make use of experience of feeding of the western inhabitants. All the same nothing would come out of it.

The matter is that creation of information infrastructure offered by academician Glushkov in the early sixties and rejected by Kosygin at the suggestion of academicians-economists left the USSR without any hope of development. Including development of agricultural manufacture.

Before appearance of computers the capitalist agriculture suffered from overproduction crises, our - from leveling. There was no motivation to intensive labor activity as it was impossible to count up labor expenses. Use of experience of capitalists helped to solve that problem, however the power and science were not at height.

Agriculture in the West actually began to work following socialist principle: from each according to his ability, to each according to his work. Work and only work is paid by the state through the system of grants. Our present management together with economic science seized upon capitalism appeared to be even more stupid than communistic management. It has ruined agriculture and feeds people with import and fairy tales about innovations. While all successful reforms always began with lifting of agricultural manufacture. All, but not ours.

A monkey became a man when its brain got increased in several times. But this volume is not enough that man ceases to kill and could feed all whom he has given birth. Computer helped mankind to grow wiser having added almost boundless volume of artificial brain. Now the task is to use it pro bono.

Now I dare to argue with classics. It's not proletariat which will be the grave-digger of capitalism. Progress will be. Scientific and technical. Before our very eyes it buries capitalism in parts. While it turns homo sapiens under its name into the one on behavior. Some supporters of Marx doctrine protect it asserting that progress creates also weapon and those who will use it destroying capitalism - proletarians. While life showed that progress in the beginning of twentieth century failed to give won proletariat the most important thing - the tool for creation of socialist way of manufacture - information infrastructure and science capable to use it at socialism building. Now such tool exists. Capitalism will ruin itself having made life of mankind intolerable. It will also bury not only proletarians but also thos who can't bear it.
